Changing the Game
Every child deserves to experience the joy of physical education, sports, and play in an environment where they feel safe, valued, and included.
When LGBTQ+ students are welcomed as classmates, teammates, and competitors, they gain access to the positive physical, social, and emotional benefits that will shape their futures.
Since 2011, GLSEN's Changing the Game has been providing educators, coaches, youth development professionals, and students with the tools to create truly inclusive spaces. Our updated Game Plans and Educator Spaces offer resources, training opportunities, and virtual community to empower adults and students to take actionable strategies that foster belonging both on and off the field.
Join us in creating a world where every student can play and thrive. Explore Changing the Game today and discover how you can make a lasting difference in a student’s life.
Students
LGBTQ+ inclusion in sports has made a lot of progress; despite this, there is still a long way to go, especially in youth sports and athletics. Whether you’re in physical education class or are participating in a competitive sport, you have a right to play and feel like you belong.
Educators
As Educators, you can make a significant impact on the experience of LGBTQ+ students and athletes in your schools. By advocating for LGBTQ+ inclusive policies and practices, you can ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to participate in school athletics and physical education classes.
Coaches
As a coach, you set the tone for your team’s culture. You are responsible for finding ways to bring out the best in each of your players. These resources and stories will help you, your assistant coaches, and volunteers intentionally create a competitive environment that is safe and inclusive for all players, including LGBTQ+ athletes.
